I am needing to have my precious chihuahua shipped back to me because I had to move spur of the moment and was not able to take her at the time and her rehome did not work out so she wants me to take her back. I am happy to but she is making all these demands on how she is shipped. I was going to go with american airlines cargo and ship her pps but that means a stop in chicago. Has anyone had to ship a pet before and can you share some tips or referrals?

I am trying so hard to raise as much as I can to get moved. She is saying she would prefer to fly her here and hand her over I that would cost double at least. I am looking for economical and safe! THanks!

I have not shipped a pet before but i do know people who have and lost their pets in the process. The airline industry is notorious for animals being killed during transport so I would recommend you do the following,

Ask your vet is there a mode of travel that will be less stressful on the animal? Would it be possible to sedate them during the duration of the flight as the loud noises and sudden movements in combination with separation anxiety for the animal is very stressful on them.

Is it at all possible for you to travel with the animal or for someone else to bring them to you, some airlines allow animals to be in small crates that will fit underneath an airline seat if they are accompanied with someone.

I would also recommend a particular airlines. Continental has a animal transport service that is the best i have heard of, the animals are immediately unloaded off the plane and into a van once their airborne journey is over.

The bottom line is that unfortunately economical and safe probably will not go in lock step with one another when it comes to transporting an animal on-board an aircraft or frankly any mode of public transport. What you then have to decide is what the animal means to you.

If you are anything like me, my cat AJ is my life and i spare no expense for her well-being and safety. The thought of the consequences if i didn't are too horrible to imagine.

I know this post is old,Jiggly but I hope you managed to get your sweet dog reunited with you in your new home. Your dog looks absolutely adorable from the pic you posted. I was wondering what you decided to do and what happened?
